The beautiful Siberian breed can have a variety of colors with many nuances. Without going into the details of feline genetics, it is worth mentioning that there are three pigments responsible for the colors of a cat. Eumelanin, pheomelanin and trichochrome. They offer the variety of colors and shades specific to each individual genetic inheritance.
The Traditional Siberian
it's the colored one, with different nuances on the fur. Red, black, brown, cream, blue, even silver or gold, can be found in the Traditional Siberian cat, as I said before, depending on the genetic inheritance and the way it is transmitted to each individual cat. In particular, pheomelanin is responsible for what is called the tabby pattern on the fur of the Traditional Siberian cat. The Traditional Siberian can be agouti or non-agouti, respectively in solid color or in one of the tabby patterns.
Neva Masquerade
The Siberian cat Neva Masquerade has a fascinating genetic explanation behind it. The gene responsible for the uniqueness of her fur color is a thermolabile gene and is from the genetic category of color restriction. This is also the reason why the shade of the fur of a Siberian Neva Masquerade gradually changes and intensifies with age. Also, the Siberian Neva Masquerade will always have blue eyes, due to the point gene.
Different Breeds?
No! No matter in which International Federation a Siberian Cat is registered, both the traditional and the Neva Masquerade are one and the same breed, that's why they can mate with each other!In the World Cat Federation / WCF system where our cattery is registered, for both varieties of fur color, there is only one EMS code: SIB!
Differences?
Apart from the color of the fur, another difference can be the texture and density of the fur. In the lineages from our cattery, the traditional Siberians have a coat that is easier to maintain, the fur is slightly shinier, repellent, and therefore requires less care.Combing the traditional fur 2-3 times a week can be enough to maintain it in perfect condition.Instead, the fur of ours Siberian Neva Masquerade requires daily attention. Having a higher density and a more woolly texture, it is necessary to be brushed daily to avoid tangles.The temperament of both color variations is identical, so both are absolutely adorable, funny and intelligent!
